... that means HATSUMODE in Japanese. It's a part of New Year's tradition to visit the shrines to pray the family's safety, health and comfort for the New Year. Many visits the shrines on the 1st day of the year... but it's always overcrowded and to avoid it... we usually visit a few days after. This year... we visited yesterday in Shizuoka Sengen Shrine.

2010 is Year of the Tiger... the eto sign or the zodiac animal sign 
Omikuji or sacred lottery... this predicts the year's fortune
Mine is Suekichi... meaning near blessing... hmmm not good... not bad^^
If the prediction is not good... it is a custom to tied it up to a tree or rope inside the shrine's ground. Well... i did^^; 
Good luck charms are for sale to help retain happiness, prosperity, healthy and safety. Sachan bought for her studies, papa for his job while mine is a CP strap charms for health! heheh!
